What is CRFG?

The San Diego Chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers was created to educate people about rare fruits, to identify fruits that are adaptable to the local area, and to propagate and to exchange plant material.

Chapter Meetings

Fourth Wednesday every month (unless otherwise noted)

8:15-9:00pm: fruit tasting & opportunity table

California Rare Fruit Growers

A membership of like-minded fruit enthusiasts dedicated to: 

  • Growing fruiting plants that may or may not be commonly found in the San Diego County area.

  • Sharing information about fruits potentially adaptable to the San Diego  area and varieties of established fruit better suited to specific areas and growing conditions.


  • Exchanging seeds, cuttings, scion wood, and plants with each other, primarily for home use/growing.

  • Following all federal, state, and county agricultural regulations.

All chapter membership renewal dues
should have been paid by January 1, 2005

Everyone who has not yet renewed their
2025 San Diego chapter dues - has now had 3 months to renew - or make other arrangements.

Please note: As of March 31, 2025 if your chapter membership lapsed, your grace period is now over, and we will soon archive your existing contact information; and newsletter delivery will cease.

Everyone who was current in 2024 - can still renew their 2025 CRFG membership online. If you have difficulty logging in, please contact the secretary.

If you renew on or before January 29, 2025 your name will be on a list to receive a new 2025 name tag.

If you unable to login to renew and pay - or have tried updating your password and cannot, please contact a CRFG administrator to be reinstated in order to renew for the calendar year 2025.

If you have had - or are having financial difficulties or have been unable to afford - even our lowest, local annual fees, please let us know. This could apply to students, seniors, families or others - who may be in need. Our board can approve a temporary exemption for various personal reasons, but you do need to ask.

Eric is a captivating speaker! He's funny, knowledgeable, youthful, and experienced.

In addition to his devotion to entomology, his athletic accomplishments as a Ninja Warrior are legendary as well!
Here's his UCCE Bio:
Eric Middleton: is an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Advisor working with UC Cooperative Extension. Although he is based in San Diego County, Eric is also responsible for IPM needs in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Eric works with growers and communities wherever pests are in issue, including in nursery and floriculture production, citrus and avocado groves, and the many small farms found in Southern California.
Eric will share updates about the insect pests that may be attacking your fruit trees in San Diego now, and no doubt inform us about some scary pests you NEVER want to see in your garden! (LIke this nasty insect I encountered in NY!)We hope to supply a dissecting microscope for viewing any samples he may bring along.

Karen England, (The President of the San Diego Horticultural Society) will speak to us about unusual herbs and their culinary uses. She is the owner of EDGEHILL FARMS, and she's a very talented and funny presenter, chef, grower, and orator.
